ILCOR meeting September 2004 Budapest

Another of the regular twice-yearly meetings of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) was held in Budapest, Hungary, on 12 and 13 September 2004.

The meeting was another opportunity to rehearse the presentation of worksheet topics prior to the final consensus on science meeting in Dallas, Texas, in January 2005. As before, many of the presentations evoked lively, but constructive debate. Two clear messages came out. First, the resulting Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations document, due for publication in November 2005, will be just that, a digest of the existing science, with recommendations only when unanimity is reached; it will not take the form of guidelines.

Second, a robust system is needed to ensure that those reviewers who have intellectual or financial conflicts of interest openly declare these. Such a system has now been developed and approved.

An important agenda item for the ILCOR business meeting was the legal incorporation of the organisation. Basically, ILCOR is to be registered as a legal entity (company) in Belgium. In association with this, a formal constitution was approved.
